I am now coming up on vacation and I am so desperate for it I could just spit. This was the year of poor vacation planning. The last big trip away was Thanksgiving. We went to Orlando with extended family. You can imagine how relaxing that was….
Then in April we decided to go up to Montreal - just in time for the student riots to go into full swing directly in front of our hotel room. I should have planned something earlier in the summer but nope. Now- I keep a desperate eye on the weather and imagine hurricanes and all sorts of storms coming up the coast on a direct path to impact my time away.
Here is my dream vacation. I will not have to do any laundry. I will not have to empty or load a dishwasher. There will be no need to grocery shop. Someone will bring me a cold beverage when I want one. Food will be plentiful. The sun will shine but there will be a lovely cooling breeze. I can play in the water for hours without getting a sunburn across my back that resembles the Union Jack making my husband burst into his version of “God Save the Queen” every time I walk into the room. (Yes, this was a part of last year’s adventure.) There will be no arguing, no backtalk and lots of enthusiasm for all of my ideas from the teenager. Everyone I meet will be friendly and polite and find me charming and fascinating in return.
Here is what I’ll settle for… we go someplace that isn’t home.
Are we there yet?
